Introduction:
In the days of film, you would take the photo, crop it and print. In the age of digital, people want and expect more. One technique that is used very often is to use light to focus the viewers eyes to the center of the photograph. We do this by darkening the corners.
Example:
But how can be improve this image?
I will use a Adobe Photoshop Plug-in called NIK software -Color Efex Pro 4.
On the right hand side you can control the center location, color and amount of vignetting to be applied to the image.
But what if you don't have the NIK software?
Then go to Photoshop:
1.Filter
2. Lens Correction
3. Advanced- Vignetting
Summary:
The beautiful thing about Photoshop is that there may be half a dozen different ways to do the same or similar thing. That is how powerful Photoshop is. To darken the above photo just make different layers of the image and re-apply the filter. You could also take a blank layer, add an oval shape, select the outside and paint it black with a taper.
In Adobe Photoshop 6 there is even a different method as shown in the linked U-tube video below. It is called Better Vignettes with CS 6
Masters-Tip: Use light to focus the viewers attention to the subject of the photo.
